shoulder embellishments :: diy

if you haven't noticed yet, shoulder jewels are IN in a big way! i, for one, am uber excited about this latest trend as it draws attention UP and slims my waist. remember the 80's shoulder pads and how we all looked a tad bit like football players? well, this is a much more tender & feminine version that everyone is wearing on the outside of their clothes.

i have a couple tops that the shoulders are embellished and i really do love them. i started thinking though, how great it would be to have the ability to add these lovelies to any old top i desire!?

hence... today's DIY...

you'll need:

  • leather
  • fabric design of your choice
  • scissors
  • tacky fabric glue
  • chain & jump rings
  • leather punch or hammer & nail
  • strong magnets
  • e6000

the DIY details:
  1. cut 2 pieces of leather & two pieces of your fabric in your shoulder pad shape.
  2. glue the back-sides of each together
  3. add any beads or glitter at this point with your glue
  4. use your leather punch to make a hole on each side of your shoulder pad. if you don't have a punch, you can hammer a nail through and then pull out. this makes a great hole!
  5. hook your chain on each side using your jump rings
  6. glue a magnet onto bottom of pad with e6000
  7. let dry
  8. attach to shoulder of shirt with other magnet. by using these, we avoid pins and holes i our clothes!
