kerry rolewicz :: meet the artist :: studio tour

Meet Kerry, an incredible oil-based artist with a style all her own! From the realities of new motherhood & midnight feedings to the whimsical robber who will steal your heart alongside your wallet, no subject is off-limits for this cheerful lady!

Kerry, you've already tackled the hardest part of being an artist: creating a signature style that is recognizable as a Rolewicz everywhere you go. Describe your methods for making a Kerry original.
Each piece starts with a sheet of artboard & a handful of sharpened pencils. I scribble & erase & scribble & erase until I start to see an image in the lines. Then, I pull the image out of the scribble using colored pencils, oil pastels, & oil painting mediums.

I love how much attitude, sass, and spunk your human subjects embody. What's your favorite subject to paint and why?
I love painting any human figure because there is so much you can do with the lines of the human body. Sometimes when I'm trying to find an image in the scribble, I'll remind myself that it doesn't have to make sense.

Part of the charm of a Kerry Rolewicz piece is the amazing vintage frame it comes packaged in. Where do you source such great finds?
I find my frames wherever I can ... antique stores, auctions, garage sales ... anywhere.

Are you an art collector as well as an artist? What decorates the walls in your home?
Well, I have been doing art fairs on and off for many years, so besides my own kid's art on my walls, I have made some incredible trades with other artists.
