aged window mirror :: diy

aged mirrors are all the rage right now. west elm & pottery barn have been carrying them for about a year now and i've always admired them. today, i'm going to show you how to make one yourself!

i have used old frames before, and the result is beautiful. i wanted to try my technique on a window and see if i like it as well. here we go:

you'll need:

  • old window (or old frame with clear glass)
  • looking glass spray paint
  • bleach in spray bottle
  • black spray paint

the DIY:
  1. spray the back side of your glass with the looking glass spray paint. NOT the front. the back. all of our work will be on the BACK of your glass piece.
  2. you may want to do this a couple times, letting it dry between sprays
  3. spritz with bleach. you can let this dry or dab with a paper towel
  4. spray with black spray paint

you will notice that the look glass spray paint won't give you a crystal clear mirror image of yourself. that's ok... an aged mirror wouldn't either. this technique is great if you are using on a piece to place in a room where you need more light. the mirror-like paint will reflect light and make your entire room feel bigger.

good luck! let me know how it goes!
