easy herb garden labels :: diy

hi friends! i have 3 great things to share with you:

  1. i survived the crossfit competition without hurting myself
  2. my oldest son earned his whittling chip in cub scouts (which means he can be trusted with a knife now)
  3. i've started a little herb garden!

so, here's the herb garden. i told you it was little. after planting, i realized i hated how obnoxious the store labels looked in my beautiful pot. even the cat thought they were stupid.

i decided to sip on a glass of wine and stare at my new garden until i thought of a solution to this tackiness. once the idea hit me, i hit up my son for a favor... he's so mature now, you know. he can use knives.

what do you think?  aren't they cool?!  and so easy.  here's how we did it:

supplies:

  • pocket or carving knife
  • sticks from your yard
  • sharpie marker

diy:
  1. collect your sticks & break them into an appropriate length for the height of your plant
  2. carefully (i stress 'carefully'), begin carving away the bark & first layer of the wood. you will want your knife to be almost parallel to the stick. do not push too hard or deep, as you can risk breaking your stick or slipping you knife.
  3. create a clean space big enough for your label
  4. write your plant id on with a sharpie marker

i just love this and i was even more thrilled that my son could help me with it. i'm thinking i may do it again in the fall as my plants go dormant for the winter... i always forget what's coming up where when spring comes around again!

xoxo
